ADULT/JUVENILE CHARGED WITH ROBBERY

AN ADULT AND A JUVENILE WERE ARRESTED WEDNESDAY, AFTER JOHNSON CITY POLICE RESPONDED TO AN INCIDENT NEAR HAVEN OF MERCY THRIFT STORE ON BROADWAY STREET. THREE MALES ARE ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING A JUVENILE VICTIM, AND STEALING A PAIR OF NIKE SHOES AND AN LG CELL PHONE. POLICE LOCATED TWO OF THE SUSPECTS, 19 YEAR OLD JULIEN FITZGERALD AND A JUVENILE, THE STOLEN PROPERTY WAS RECOVERED. BOTH WERE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ROBBERY. FITZGERALD WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH CONTRIBUTING TO THE DELINQUENCY OF A MINOR.

ELIZABETHTON MAN CHARGED AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

AN ELIZABETHTON MAN IS FACING CHARGES AFTER A TRAFFIC STOP TUESDAY NIGHT. JOHNSON CITY POLICE STOPPED THE VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 28 YEAR OLD BRUCE WILLIAMSON FOR AN IMPROPER DISPLAYED TAG. DURING THE STOP, OFFICERS DISCOVERED THAT WILLIAMSON’S LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED, AND HE HAD SEVERAL WARRANTS OUT OF MULTIPLE COUNTIES. DURING A SEARCH OF HIS VEHICLE, OFFICERS LOCATED A LARGE AMOUNT OF METH INSIDE A BACKPACK, ALONG WITH A BAG OF MARIJUANA. WILLIAMSON WAS CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF METH FOR RESALE, SIMPLE POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE, AND IMPROPER DISPLAY OF REGISTRATION.

RETTKE SENTENCED TO JUDICIAL DIVERSION

TRISTAN RETTKE WAS SENTENCED TO JUDICIAL DIVERSION FOR DISRUPTING A BLACK LIVES MATTER EVENT AT ETSU IN SEPTEMBER 2016. RETTKE WAS FOUND GUILTY IN JULY OF DISPUTING AN ORGANIZED EVENT. DURING THAT TRIAL, RETTKE WAS ACQUITTED ON FOUR OTHER CHARGES, INCLUDING CIVIL RIGHTS INTIMIDATION. RETTKE WILL ALSO SERVE SIX MONTHS OF UNSUPERVISED PROBATION, AND PAY A FINE OF 500 DOLLARS PLUS COURT COSTS.

LIMESTONE MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER

A LIMESTONE MAN IS FACING CHARGES OF ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER, AFTER STABBING ANOTHER MAN MULTIPLE TIMES TUESDAY. ACCORDING TO THE WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, DEPUTIES WERE CALLED TO A HOME ON PROVIDENCE ROAD, AND FOUND THE VICTIM COVERED IN BLOOD, WITH MULTIPLE STAB WOUNDS TO THE FACE, HEAD, AND BODY. THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SAID THE VICTIM LIVED IN THE SAME HOME AS 28 YEAR OLD TYLER PENLEY. INVESTIGATORS SAID PENLEY ADMITTED TO THE STABBING, STATING “THE VOICES TOLD HIM TO DO IT”. PENLEY WAS JAILED ON 100,000 DOLLAR BOND, AND IS ON SUICIDE WATCH AT THE WASHINGTON COUNTY DETENTION CENTER. THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO JOHNSON CITY MEDICAL CENTER AND WAS LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION.

THREE FINALISTS IN PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH

THE VIRGINIA STATE BOARD FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES HAS ANNOUNCED THREE FINALISTS FOR THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT AT VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THE FINALISTS ARE DR MARCIA CONSTON OF CHARLOTTE, DR ADAM HUTCHISON OF ELM MOTT TEXAS, AND DR HERBERT H.F. RIEDEL OF ANDALUSIA ALABAMA. CHANCELLOR GLENN DUBOIS SAID THE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH IS ATTRACTING AN IMPRESSIVE BREADTH AND DEPTH OF TALENTED CANDIDATES, AND THAT’S NO SURPRISE. THE NEW PRESIDENT WILL REPLACE DR CHARLIE WHITE, THE CURRENT INTERIM PRESIDENT. THE FINALISTS ARE EXPECTED TO VISIT THE COLLEGE OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS TO MEET WITH FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS.
